Connecting a kiosk tablet to Anghello

A tablet lets you set up a fixed check-in kiosk at reception. Visitors check in on the spot, without needing their smartphone. This guide shows you how to connect a tablet to your Anghello site.

Audience: Administrators, Managers
Application: Admin (app.anghello.co) + a browser on the tablet
Estimated time: 5 minutes

Before you start

  • You need an Administrator or Manager account on Anghello
  • You need a tablet (iPad or Android tablet) with an up-to-date web browser
  • The tablet must be connected to the internet (WiFi or mobile network)

Tablet compatibility

The check-in kiosk is a web app (PWA): it runs in the tablet's browser, with no app store install.

Use

Compatible tablets

Requirements

Check-in kiosk (visitor check-in)

iPad and Android tablets

Up-to-date browser (Safari on iPad, Chrome on Android)

Check-in kiosk with visitor badge printing

Android tablets only (Android 7.0 or newer)

Dedicated Anghello app (APK) — see the last section

For comfortable use, we recommend a screen of at least 10 inches. Any recent entry-level tablet will do: the kiosk doesn't need much power.

Connecting the tablet

1. Open the site settings

From the admin interface on your computer, go to Configuration > Sites. On your site's card, click Settings & features.

2. Open the QR Code - Devices tab

Click the QR Code & Tablet card, or go to the QR Code - Tablet tab.

3. Click Connect a device

Click the Connect a device button. A QR code appears.

4. On the tablet, scan the QR code

On your tablet, scan the QR code: this opens the browser and takes you to an authentication page.

5. Enter the pairing code

Enter the code shown on your computer screen. The tablet connects to your site automatically.

6. Set up the tablet at reception

The check-in kiosk appears on the tablet. Set it up at your entrance, on a stand or a counter.

💡 Tip: For the best setup, turn on the browser's full-screen mode and disable the tablet's automatic sleep.

Good to know

💡 Tip: The tablet displays the same check-in kiosk as the QR code, plus a QR code shown in the corner of the screen for visitors who'd rather use their own smartphone.

💡 Tip: You can connect several tablets to the same site.

Locking down the tablet: kiosk mode and MDM

A reception tablet is out in the open: you need to stop visitors from leaving the kiosk, and make sure it returns to the kiosk screen on its own after a restart. That's what kiosk mode is for: the tablet is locked to a single browser tab, opened on your kiosk URL.

How you set this up depends on your company:

  • With an MDM (fleet management solution: Microsoft Intune, Samsung Knox, Scalefusion, Hexnode, Jamf for iPad…): deploy a kiosk profile that pins the browser to the kiosk URL. This is the recommended approach if your IT department already manages a fleet of devices.
  • Without an MDM: use a kiosk browser app (for example Fully Kiosk Browser on Android, or the native kiosk mode) or Guided Access on iPad, configured on the kiosk URL.

Whichever tool you choose, your kiosk configuration must follow these rules:

Rule

Why

Keep the browser's cookies and session data (no clearing on close, on restart, or between sessions)

The tablet's pairing with your site relies on a secure session cookie, valid for 2 years. If it's cleared, the tablet is disconnected and you have to pair it again.

Automatically reopen the kiosk URL on startup

The kiosk comes back on its own after a power cut or an overnight restart.

Disable sleep and keep the screen on during reception hours

The kiosk stays welcoming and visible at all times during reception hours.

Allow camera access for the kiosk URL

Needed for visitors to scan QR codes (invitations, returning visitors).

💡 Important: Some kiosk modes offer a "clear browsing data every session" option designed for public kiosks. Do not enable it for Anghello: it deletes the pairing cookie and disconnects the tablet on every restart.

Visitor badge printing: the dedicated Android app

If you want to automatically print a badge each time a visitor checks in, the browser alone isn't enough: direct printing (with no dialog box) requires the dedicated Anghello app, provided as an APK to install on the tablet. It displays the exact same check-in kiosk, adding communication with the badge printer.

Requirements:

  • Android tablet only (Android 7.0 or newer); the iPad doesn't yet support badge printing.
  • A Brother QL-820NWBC label printer, connected to the same local network as the tablet.
  • The Anghello APK, provided by our team — contact support to get it and install it (directly or via your MDM).

Once the app is installed, the tablet is paired exactly as described above, and the printer is set up from the kiosk configuration screen. Kiosk updates stay automatic: the app loads the kiosk online, so there's no APK update needed for each change.

💡 Good to know: The kiosk mode rules above (keeping data, reopening on startup, no sleep) also apply to the Android app: configure your MDM to pin the Anghello app instead of the browser.

Troubleshooting

Problem

Solution

The pairing code doesn't work

Check that the tablet is connected to the internet and that the code hasn't expired. Generate a new code.

The tablet disconnects regularly

Check the stability of the WiFi connection. Disable automatic sleep.

The screen isn't full-screen

Turn on full-screen mode in the tablet's browser settings.

If the problem persists, contact our team via the chat at the bottom right of your screen, or at support@anghello.co.
