# Configure Automations (Closure, Anonymization, Deletion)

Automations let you manage your visitors' data lifecycle without manual work: close visits at the end of the day, anonymize personal data after a set number of days, and automatically delete old visits. This guide shows you how to configure them.

**Audience:** Administrators, Managers
**Application:** Admin (app.anghello.co)
**Estimated time:** 5 minutes

## Before you start

* You need an **Administrator or Manager account** on Anghello
* At least one site must be created

## Open the automations

**1.** In the left-hand menu, go to `Settings` > `Sites`. On your site card, click `Settings & Features`.

**2.** Click the `Automation` tab.

## Automatic visit closing

This automation automatically closes all visits still open at a set time. Useful for closing the visits of people who forgot to check out when leaving.

**1. Enable automatic closing**

Turn on the `Automatically mark as out visits` option.

**2. Set the closing time**

Choose the **hour** and **minutes** (0 or 30) of the closing.

> 💡 **Tip:** The time displayed is in your local time zone. Choose a time after your premises close (for example 8:00 PM).

**3. Save**

Click `Save`. All visits still open will be automatically closed at the set time, every day.

## Automatic anonymization

Anonymization erases visitors' personal data (first name, last name, and custom fields tagged as personal data) after a set number of days. Aggregated data (visit date, site) is kept. It is an essential tool for GDPR compliance.

**1. Enable automatic anonymization**

Turn on the `Automatically anonymize visits` feature.

**2. Set the number of days**

Enter the number of days after check-in beyond which personal data is anonymized. The default value is **90 days**.

**3. Save**

Click `Save`. Your older data will soon be anonymized automatically.

|| **Important:** Anonymization is **irreversible**. Personal data is permanently deleted.

## Automatic visit deletion

Automatic deletion completely erases visits (including aggregated data) after a set number of days.

If you don't set a value, **the maximum retention period** for visit data, which depends on your plan level, is automatically applied (1 year for the Essential plan, up to 2 years on Premium).

**1. Set the number of days**

Enter the number of days after which visits are deleted. The maximum allowed depends on your subscription.

**2. Save**

Click `Save`. Your older data will soon be erased.

## Good to know

> 💡 **Tip:** We recommend enabling **automatic anonymization** for good data management. **Anonymization at 90 days** is a good balance between operational usefulness and GDPR compliance for most organizations.

|| **Important:** Automations apply to all the site's visits, including existing ones. Enable them with care.

## Troubleshooting

| Problem | Solution |
| ---- |
| Visits don't close automatically | Check that automatic closing is enabled and that the time is set correctly. |
| Visits were anonymized too early | Check the number of days configured. Adjust it if necessary. |
| The deletion field shows a different maximum | The maximum number of days depends on your subscription. |
